After a stunning introduction in 2017 The Good Home Taranaki Off-Road Half Marathon is back in 2018 on Saturday January 20th. Same venue, same course! Situated only 10 minutes drive from New Plymouth, this Off-Road Half Marathon course winds around a breathtaking 21km loop of the stunning Lake Mangamahoe. Runners will take in all the tracks, including the awesome single file mountain bike tracks. 

Along with the Half Marathon distance, runners could instead opt to tackle the slightly shorter, yet just as challenging, Quarter Marathon and 5km distances too.

This event proudly supports the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter.

Half Marathon

This event is a held over one lap of the course, utilising forestry tracks, walking tracks, bridle tracks, mountain bike tracks, and gravel roads. Participants must be 16 years or over on the day of the event. There is a cut off time at 10.5km of 2.5hours. If participants are not at the cut off point by this time they will not be able to go any further. This is to ensure we have left the lake area by the time agreed upon with the New Plymouth Mountain Bike Club. 

 

Quarter Marathon

This event is held over the first half of the half marathon course utilising forestry tracks, walking tracks, bridle tracks and gravel roads. Participants must be 10 years or over on the day of the event. 

 

5km 

This event is run over forestry tracks, walking tracks and gravel roads. Participants must be 8 years or over on the day of the event.  Please note: All course have beautiful scenery, with views of the mountain and lake. 

 

Walkers

Yes you are more than welcome to walk the course. We do not have a walking category however. Anyone who is wanting to walk will be asked to start at the back of the field for the start of the race. The same price of entry and conditions apply to walkers. 

 

Registration

All participants must collect their race packs and race number with timing tag prior to starting the event. 

Friday January 19th 2018: The Good Home, 21 Ariki Street, New Plymouth - between 4pm and 8pm. 

Saturday January 20th 2018: Lake Mangamahoe Event Centre, Plantation Rd, New Plymouth - between 6am and 7:30am. (No one will be given their race packs after 7:30am). 

Each event pack will contain a race bib, timing tag, important safety information, sponsors products and randomly drawn minor spot prizes. 

Event packs can be collected by friends and family, but all participants must wear a race bib, timing tag and have read the safety information. 

 

Entry on the day

This event has limited entries available. In the unlikely event that there is space still available, late entries will be accepted up to half an hour before the start of the race at the event registration tent. No Eftpos or Credit Card facilities will be available on the day of the event, cash only. 

 

Race Bibs and Timing Tag

These must be attached to the your front and be visible at all times. 

 

Event Centre

The event centre is located inside Lake Mangamahoe Forest, off Plantation Rd. Please follow the directions of event staff when turning onto Plantation Rd. 

Fresh coffee, refreshments, and food from a BBQ will all be available to purchase at the event centre from 8am. Cash only. 

 

Parking

Parking space is very limited. PLEASE car pool where possible. There will be a car pool station at the TSB Stadium car park from 6:30am. Meet there to find a ride and fill a car. Parking will be in a paddock on Plantation Rd, New Plymouth. Please ensure you take all rubbish with you when you leave.

 

Event Day Timetable

All events will start at 8am sharp on Saturday 20th January. This includes the Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon and 5km events. 

Please note: Winners in each category will be decided by first across the line, not the fastest time. It is therefore important that fast competitive runners are allowed the opportunity to start near the front of the pack on the start line.

Equipment

It is recommended that each participant has the following equipment to ensure their safety:

Suitable footwear: Specific trail running shoes is the best option for grip and support, but traditional running shoes are also suitable, as long as they have sufficient tread remaining on the sole. Visit The Frontrunner to see their comprehensive range of trail running shoes, and get expert advice from their team. 
Waterproof or wind resistant jacket: A jacket that will protect you from the changeable weather conditions is useful (but not compulsory), and can be tied around the waist if it is not needed.
It is highly recommended that participants have some warm dry clothes to change into after the event. 

 

Food and drink

All participants are required to be self-sufficient – there are no drink aid stations on the course.

We will be supplying electrolyte replacement drink at the finish area.

 

Toilet Facilities 

There will be portaloos available to use at the event centre.

 

Spectators

There are great opportunities for speactors to view competitors on the course. The best place to see all the action is at the event centre. From there the race MC will direct you to the best points to see the competitiors. 

 

After Party 

Oh yes we do like to party, and we want to party with you! The team at the Good Home New Plymouth are hosting a huge after party featuring live music from Taranaki's top acoustic duo ASH N AIDEN! See you all there to celebrate! 

 

Refund Policy

Refunds up until the 1st January will incur a $10.00 administration fee. From the 2nd January 2018 there will be NO refunds. In the unlikely event of a natural disaster, closure of Lake Mangamahoe forest due to high winds, factors out of our control, or an 'act of god' causing the cancellation of the event, entry fees will not be refunded. Please contact info@taranakitrailrun.co.nz if you want to withdraw from the event. 

There are no transfers available. 

 

Pets

Please note that NPDC rules do not permit dogs with 200m of the lake, it is for that reason that competitors are unable to bring their dogs on race day, not run with them during the race.
